Project Finance & Compliance Officer

Together we facilitate dialogue between people on each side of a conflict. We inspire consideration and discussion of harmful beliefs, so that mutual hatred and mistrust can decrease. Our team in The Hague consists of about 25 people who work daily with passion and commitment, on building a world without violence.

Project Finance & Compliance Officer

 Employment: 28 – 32 hours per week
Start: As soon as possible
Location: The Hague
Residency requirement:
Applicants must currently reside in the Netherlands.

As a Project Finance & Compliance Officer, you ensure that the financial foundations of our international programmes are sound.You are responsible for accurate, complete and audit-ready project administration and ensure that reliable financial information is available to programme teams, management, auditors and donors. You work closely with programme staff, project controllers, the Business Controller, the Finance & Operations Manager, international partners in nine countries, and external auditors. You ensure that project files are complete, costs and hours are allocated correctly, and financial reports meet donor and audit requirements.In this way, you are an important link between the implementation of our programmes and our financial accountability to donors.

What will you do?

In this position, you are responsible for the financial administration and compliance of a portfolio of international programmes. You combine accurate day-to-day administration with monitoring donor requirements and supporting colleagues and partners on financial matters.

Your activities include:

  • Managing and updating the financial project administration in Project Connect;
  • Processing, checking and monitoring cost allocations and time allocations;
  • Preparing financial project reports for programme staff and donors;
  • Preparing financial reports in accordance with donor requirements;
  • Monitoring grant conditions, contractual agreements and financial guidelines;
  • Checking expenditure for accuracy, completeness and eligibility;
  • Maintaining complete and audit-ready financial project files;
  • Supporting colleagues and international partners with financial and administrative questions;
  • Preparing for and supporting internal and external audits, and following up on findings;
  • Identifying administrative discrepancies and compliance risks and helping to address them;
  • Contributing to grant applications, project budgets and multi-year budgets.

Through this work, you ensure reliable project administration, timely donor reporting and compliance with donor requirements, and contribute to the overall financial quality of our programmes.

Who are you?

You enjoy working with accuracy to financial administration and have a keen eye for detail. You are precise and analytical and feel comfortable working within the requirements of complex international grant programmes. At the same time, you enjoy collaborating with colleagues and partners and are able to explain financial requirements clearly.

In addition, you have:

  • Higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking, preferably in Finance, Business Economics or Accountancy;
  • Experience with project administration or project control;
  • Experience with donor-funded programmes or grant reporting is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of cost and time allocations;
  • Experience with audit processes and/or external audits;
  • Excellent Excel skills;
  • Experience with Exact Online, Project Connect or comparable systems is an advantage;
  • Good command of English; working knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
