In Colombia for the last fifty years a civil war has raged between the government and the rebel movement FARC. The poorest and most underdeveloped group, the Afro-Columbians, have been hit disproportionally hard by the conflict. Many of them were forced off their lands. They are also excluded from the decision-making processes.

Our approach

Mensen met een Missie is training Afro-Colombian communities to enable them to participate effectively and equally in the decision-making processes. Locally developed peace plans are implemented, with special attention to gender equality.

Results

Communities and their leaders now have more knowledge and comprehensible, systematised information about for instance the peace process, plebiscites, and their rights. Leaders (also women!) are able to represent the community and make a convincing case for their peace plans.
