Magazine: How JISRA changed communities with interfaith dialogue

Back to overview

Across seven countries, something remarkable unfolded — quietly at first, then with a strength impossible to ignore. Faith leaders who once hesitated to meet now sit side by side. Young people who felt invisible have become advocates and bridge-builders. Women long excluded from leadership are shaping community decisions.

This magazine captures that journey in full: a five-year interfaith effort by more than fifty organisations working together under the JISRA programme — led by Mensen met een Missie and partners with 90+ years of experience in the world’s most polarised contexts. It brings forward the stories behind the outcomes — the conversations that defused tensions, the alliances that prevented violence, the courage it takes to challenge harmful norms, and the persistence needed to keep dialogue alive. It shows what locally led peacebuilding looks like when faith actors, women, and youth lead the way.

For funders, foundations, and policymakers, this publication offers more than an overview of results. It gives evidence of how participatory grantmaking shifted power, how cross-country learning shaped national policies, and how community dialogue influenced systems — from local councils to the UN Human Rights Council.

Open the magazine below. Meet the people behind the progress. Discover what becomes possible when bridges built through dialogue are given the time and trust to endure.
